About the Seminars

The one-day seminars series covers four key topics which are key during the commercialisation and development of health innovations - intellectual property, regulation and regulatory affairs, clinical trials, and navigating the healthcare system.

Delivered by industry and healthcare experts, you’ll walk away with a comprehensive overview of each topic and an understanding of where you can go for more information. Designed for researchers, innovators, clinicians, scientists, commercialisation personnel, startup team members, founders and founding team members, first time startup board members and advisors, the seminars give practical, actionable advice and use case studies to show you how others have tackled the challenges of commercialisation.

This seminar is for anyone who is looking for fundamental and practical knowledge on intellectual property and how to protect it. You’ll be taken through the key details you need to understand about intellectual property early on the commercialisation journey. The seminar will cover topics including:

This seminar is for anyone who wants to develop a high-level understanding of the regulatory landscape and pathways for NSW-based innovations who have a global view. During this seminar, you’ll hear from experts about the key details you need to understand about regulatory affairs in Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe. 

  • Correspondence and implications of clinical trials, regulatory affairs, and quality management systems

  • Regulatory bodies, pathways, and timelines in Australia, the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe

  • Therapeutics & Pharmaceuticals Regulation including frameworks and classifications of medicines, managing the planning process, developing with the outcome in mind, product development, sale/supply, and post-marketing

  • Medical Device, Diagnostics, and Software as a Medical Device Regulation in Australia: Regulations, definitions, and classification, Regulatory submissions, and Quality Management Systems

Navigating the Healthcare System

Tuesday, 12th September 2023, 9am to 5pm

This seminar is for anyone who wants to understand what the healthcare system looks like today and how the different pieces work and collaborate. During this seminar, you’ll hear from different parts of the healthcare system on how they work, who the key stakeholders are, what the procurement and decision making process looks like, and what it takes to succeed.

  • What different components make up the NSW and Australian health system and the role and structure of these.

  • Key terminology to understand

  • Who is involved in funding healthcare innovations 

  • Quality, safety, infrastructure, and the workforce in health.

  • How to find the key decision makers and navigate, procurement processes, and purchasing behaviours for key health stakeholders for:

    • In-hospital and out-of-hospital public services

    • The private system

    • The primary healthcare system (general practitioners)

    • Allied health

    • Aged care

    • The NDIS

How much does it cost?

It’s free - all four seminars are fully funded by NSW Health, through the NSW Health Commercialisation Training Program.

How do I register?

All the registration pages are available here. You are able to register for one seminar at a time, or all at once. 

Do I have to attend all the seminars?

No, you can attend any combination of the seminars which work for you. 

When are the seminars?

All our seminars start promptly at 9am and conclude by 5pm.

Do I have to attend in person?

All NSW Health Commercialisation Program modules are also available online. While attending in person is strongly encouraged, we understand that doesn’t work for everyone and we do livestream the seminars and courses for participants who can’t join in person. 

Where does the Program take place?

All seminars and courses are conducted at Cicada Innovations’ seminar room in South Eveleigh. Our address is the National Innovation Centre, 2-4 Cornwallis Street, South Eveleigh.
